Paisa Vs Party

I went to my home recently on a long week end of four days. I enjoyed a lot by just eating, sleeping and watching TV (by the way, my Mom cooks non-vegetarian food very well). One fine morning, I heard my mom arguing with some one. I came out and saw her talking to a vegetable seller. “No madam I can’t give any more for 50paisa” said the seller. “I did not ask for 25 paisa worth coriander leaves… I have given you 50paisa and you have given only this much!!!” my mother replied. “How much do you expect for 50paisa, do you need the whole basket… mmm…” said the seller and gave some more coriander leaves and left the place. My mom felt happy. I asked her why she was arguing with the seller for so long time, that too for just 50paisa. “You neither know the cost of the coriander leaves nor the value of a rupee… you just keep quiet!” said my mom.

“Mohan! 20 rupees as a tip for a waiter… No!!! Two or five rupees would be sufficient… give change as tip i.e. coins not notes... Ok…You don’t know the value of a rupee…” said my mom at Malgudi (a south Indian restaurant). “Hello… it is just 11rupees 20paisa... why are you taking 15rupees” my dad shouted. “I have no change sir” said the auto driver. My father searched all his pockets and gave him 2rupee coin and asked him to give back 50paisa. “I don’t have 50paisa Sir” auto driver replied. “Why are you driving auto without change” said my dad and we left the place.

In all such scenarios I was telling them to take things easy. But they always restated one thing…“You don’t know the value of a rupee…” Not only my parents, you might have seen many parents telling the same to their children. Most of the times they are correct, some times they are not. One of my friends watched a movie on the first day. He bought ticket in black for 200rupees. After watching the movie, he said he wasted amount in watching a bad movie. Most of us watch movies buying tickets in black but our parents might not.

Gifts, parties, dressings and in many other things, we spend money just like that. At times I question myself “Am I a spendthrift or is it just because of raise in my standard of living?” Earlier I had parties very rarely. It might be a birthday party, New Year party or some thing else. But now… party – party – party. Week end party, onsite party, team party, friend’s party and at times party-JLT (Party just like that). If we start listing the way we have parties and the way we spend money, it goes on and on. I want to lessen spending money. (In fact my friends spend much more than me… I hope they realize soon). When our parents fight for paisa to paisa to save some amount and help us to have a good future, it is every ones duty to support them in having our future bright.

mohi,

TOPIC CHALA BAGUNDI. Its true, we need not spend 2 rupees, in place of 5 rupees. But sometimes we start spending where no money is requied, example purchase of unwanted things.

My theory is simple, keep quotas of amount you earn. Spend with in your limits, as much or as less you want. Its good if we can save it even further.

Mohi,

I have few more words regarding a husband and wife.

where the wife, generally is more spend thrift towards, Dresses, Food, Travel( only autos/costly buses).

but the husband can live for years without new dresses, special food, any luxary travels. But he is more enthusiastic in buying electronic goods music systems, cams, high end cell phones. This guy, even though he doesnt have enough amount for his activities, he will be always ready to give it to others and never expect it back. All these items appear to be stuipid for the wife.

Both of these try to control each other but never control themselves. Till date they didnt save a single penny for their future. Still they are not worried about future plans, backups. They are just going happyly.

I wish they wont have any problems and start savings for better life. Why I am worried about them? Cos, the poor husband is myself.

Spending 2 rupees in place of 5/- is BAD. But think why we are spending? What made us to spend?

I will spend 100/- for Auto in place of 10/- for RTC Bus. But i feel some times it is worth to spend(i am not feeling well and i need to attedn my job in office). I feel bad if i habituated this comfort :-)

i spoke to my MOM a month ago, can we have one room AC by this summer now we can affort it now. She said cooler will work for this summer no need of AC. Even though we affort it, is it required? She in turn asked me a question. And she said, donot waste money save it for your future.

Before spending a rupee just think is it required?.

Saving money is a good habit. But donot think toooo much why your friends are spending, why i am NOT.

you are right Mohan. Here when i am spending each cent here it always reminds me the value of rupee which i used to spend there in india.

Hi Mohan,

Nice to know that you had a long vacation (in ur terms). I wish that you have them often or atleast when needed. However, when you get a vacation just enjoy the moments thinking good and doing good rather wasting time in thinking of such controversial subjects, the significance of which you can really understand once you get into that position (not even putting your self into their shoes, but ony when you really attain the status of theirs, a responsible parent).

Nothing much to this, as even I am not capable of thinking in deep on such matters............

I wish a very happy, joyful and successful married life to KP (you got me?...) and to you in near future (I guess...!)

Wishes to Siri (= money!) as well.....

All the best and take care.

With thanks, regards and best wishes,
G.Srikanth.

mohan,

its depends on the way of thinking and taking things in life.
Again if u have a good plan for everything there is no wrong in spending some amount for joy and partying, afterall u try to get urself out of the busy boredom with party. again if u wont have njoyment there , i totally agree with ur words.

and man u r still a bachelor , try to njoy the fullest rather than thinking too much, once u get married.........

keerthi.
